Picklejuice: The Inspiration | The Sequel | The Pickleballer
Introducing Picklejuice, the latest spooky addition to our Halloween Pickleball Collection! Inspired by the mischievous character from Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice, this pickleball twist brings all the quirky, spooky fun to your Halloween pickleball gear.
The Movie that Started It All: Beetlejuice (1988)
The original Beetlejuice is a classic horror-comedy film directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton as the titular character. The story follows a recently deceased couple, Adam and Barbara Maitland (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis), who find themselves haunting their own home after a fatal car accident. When a quirky, modern family—Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones), his eccentric artist wife Delia (Catherine O’Hara), and his goth daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder)—move into the house, the Maitlands try to scare them away. Failing to do so on their own, they turn to the chaotic, self-proclaimed “bio-exorcist” Beetlejuice (Keaton) to help.
Beetlejuice’s antics bring dark humor and chaos to the story, and his zany personality, wild hair, and black-and-white striped suit became iconic. But Beetlejuice comes with his own set of problems, and when Lydia accidentally summons him by saying his name three times, the real mayhem begins. The movie became a cult favorite for its unique mix of humor, horror, and quirky Burton-style visuals, with an unforgettable soundtrack by Danny Elfman.
The Long-Awaited Sequel: Beetlejuice 2 (2024)
Fans have waited over three decades for Beetlejuice 2, and in 2024, their patience paid off! Directed once again by Tim Burton, the sequel sees the return of many original cast members, including Michael Keaton reprising his iconic role as Beetlejuice and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz. In this follow-up, Lydia is all grown up and now has a daughter named Delia (played by Jenna Ortega), who inherits some of her mother’s unique gothic style and fascination with the paranormal.
Without giving too much away, Beetlejuice 2 revisits the twisted afterlife and dark humor that made the original so beloved. Keaton’s Beetlejuice is just as outrageous as ever, bringing his trademark mischief to new, hilariously spooky situations. With Burton’s whimsical yet eerie aesthetic still intact, the sequel introduces new characters and revisits the chaotic dynamics between the living and the dead. The chemistry between Keaton and Ryder remains a highlight, with Ortega’s Delia Deetz adding a fresh twist to the family legacy. Catherine O’Hara also returns as the wacky Delia Deetz, promising even more bizarre laughs.
