Remember back in the day, dashing outside after dinner on a summer night to play kickball, street hockey, wiffle ball, hide and seek, or whatever game your neighborhood crew came up with, and your “curfew” was to come home when the street lights came on?
It seems the days of setting up a net in the middle of your street as Wayne and Garth did in Wayne’s World are long gone. I can’t remember the last time I heard the sounds of a group of kids yelling “CAR!!”, dragging the net or whatever out of the road, hearing the car pass, and then “GAME ON!”
Of course, there are organized little league games, but those summer night impromptu baseball games at the local playground were memory makers to be sure. Who doesn’t love the nostalgia The Sandlot brings back? (You’re killing me Smalls!)
I do know that I love to get in as many pickleball games as possible before it gets dark. There aren’t any streetlights near the courts where I play, but on those rare nights when it’s not too buggy after sundown, it’s a thrill to whack that little yellow (or orange or green) ball in the headlight glow of the cars shining on the pickleball court.
With that in mind, I designed this fabric design pattern ‘Playing Pickleball ‘Til the Streetlights Come On’ in a few different colorways. This fun pattern was created using a colorful pickleball ball under the shadow of a pickleball net.
‘Playing Pickleball ‘Til the Streetlights Come On’ Fabric is available on Spoonflower
The original design is an orange pickleball on a teal and green pickleball court with white lines. It was the first fabric design that I sold on Spoonflower, which was super exciting that someone else actually liked my work enough to buy it and make something out of it.
